Games and Coasters

On Sunday, April 8th, I went to the Hersheypark "General Training". Initially, I thought that this was going to be somewhat informative, but it turned out to be sitting in a chair for 3.5 hours and listening to an intern tell us the rules and regulations of Hersheypark -- most of these rules we had covered in Ride Op training the day before.

Some highlights of the training included:
1)A "History of Hersheypark" video that seemed like an old government propaganda movie.

2)"How to use a fire extinguisher". P.A.S.S. -- Pull the pin, aim the nozzle, spray, sweep. Hehehe...

One of things that learned was what our exact benefits of being an employee would be. I'll get on free pass to give to a friend or a family member once every so often in my paycheck. I'll, of course, get free admission to the park whenever I want. I get a 15% discount on most foods and items.

Employee's are NOT allowed to play games while on or off duty. The only things we can play are games that do not give prizes or tickets. Pinball / arcade games. I can't really think of a good reason for this... unless there is some secret to winning these games.

All in all, the day was pretty boring. They did provide snacks for us - Goldfish crackers and pretzels. Sodas were on sale for the very reasonable price of 25 cents per can. Ten times less expensive than the "in park" price of $2.50. Was the class boring. Yes. Was it a waste of my time. Yeah, most of it. Was it necessary. Yes. Hershey has to make sure that all the employees know how to do things like put out fires. So while it may have been boring, I can see the reason for having to attend the training.

That's it! The next edition of "On the job" won't be out until May 7th. I work May 5th and 6th, so I'll have plenty to write about!
