I first heard about this rumor a few weeks ago in Thrillride!'s Wild Rumors section. Someone wrote in claiming that Hersheypark was going to build a 400ft tall coaster that was 15 minutes long and went around the entire park. Um... yeah... sure... I thought that rumor was completely false until I talked to one of my Ride Lead's on Monday. I started off talking about the rumored Setpoint coaster -- I was trying to see if she knew anything about what Hershey is getting next year without directly asking her. She said she had heard rumors of a water coaster and that she also had heard that they (upper management?) were thinking about build a coaster that went all around the park. Now, obviously, I doubt that this would be 400ft. tall and last for 15 minutes, but I would imagine that this would be a hypercoaster - probably around 230 feet tall. My ride lead had said that they were choosing between this and the water coaster (Setpoint Swing Thing). I'm sure they went with the Swing Thing, but the fact that they were even considering a hypercoaster is impressive. At least we now know that Hersheypark isn't afraid to build big coasters. So, while Hersheypark is most likely getting a Setpoint "Swing Thing", they had at one time (or still have) a very large coaster on the drawing board. Hopefully, this will become a reality very shortly!
